French DJ and producer Kavinsky, whose song "Nightcall" was closely associated with the 2011 film Drive, has died at the age of 50.

The musician, whose real name was Vincent Belorgey, was found dead in his Paris home on Tuesday evening, July 28, according to the Paris prosecutor's office. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of death. Initial findings revealed no suspicious circumstances, according to Reuters and the Associated Press .

The official cause of death has not yet been announced.

Kavinsky achieved international recognition with "Nightcall," released in 2010 and used in the opening sequence of the film Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. The track was co-written and produced with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and featured vocals by Lovefoxxx of CSS.

The song regained global prominence at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Kavinsky performed it at the Stade de France alongside Phoenix and Angèle, giving one of his best-known recordings renewed visibility more than a decade after its original release.

Kavinsky has released two studio albums throughout his career. His debut, OutRun, arrived in 2013 and solidified the cinematic and retrofuturistic aesthetic he had developed in his previous work. After a long hiatus between albums, he returned with Reborn in 2022.

Although Kavinsky was frequently associated with the French electronic music scene surrounding Daft Punk, he was not a member of the duo. He toured with Daft Punk during the Alive era in 2007 and collaborated with de Homem-Christo on "Nightcall".

French officials and musicians paid tribute after learning of his death. President Emmanuel Macron described Kavinsky as a source of pride for France, while the Ministry of Culture remembered him as a singular figure in electronic music whose work reached audiences through Drive and the Paris Olympic Games.

Kavinsky would have turned 51 on July 31.
